TKAccess Flow Curved Rail Stairlift - Chicago
In this project our clients wanted their son, who has muscular dystrophy, to have access to their entire Chicago home. There are two separate stairways in the home - one between the first and second floor and another that leads to a finished basement. Both stairways make a single 90-degree turn so the job required a curved rail lift. EHLS recommended installing the Flow, a curved rail lift made by ThyssenKrupp Access. The Flow is an attractive sophisticated stairlift with a number of unique features. While most lifts have rectangular or square rails, the Flow rail is a 3" diameter steel tube which has a sleek, modern appearance. The rail is also available in a variety of colors, an option that clients appreciate.
-
Here we see the Flow with a cream colored rail on the upper stairway. This flight begins with a 3 riser straight section followed by a flat landing, a 90-degree turn to the left, and a second longer straight section leading to the second floor.
-
The Flow seat folds up when not in use minimizing the space it occupies on the stairway.
-
Here we see how well the Flow blends with its surroundings.
-
Looking down on the Flow seat and the upper stairway's intermediate landing. The Flow rail requires fewer supports than most other curved rail lifts.
-
The Basement Stairs
Looking down the basement stairs from the main floor. We can see the Flow rail as it travels down the stairs and makes the 90-degree turn at the landing. The outside edge of the rail is about 8" from the wall.
-
Here we have a view of the Flow track as it turns and comes down a short straight section of stairs into the basement.
-
The top of the basement stairs with the Flow seat in its folded position waiting for use.
-
This angle clearly shows how compact the Flow seat is when folded up. In the folded position the Flow seat extends about 15" from the wall.

ThyssenKrupp Access Flow Stairlift - Wilmette
Here are a couple of pictures of a Flow curved rail stairlift EHLS installed for a client in Wilmette. Climbing the stairs was becoming a problem for this couple but the Flow stairlift now allows them to travel safely and easily from floor to floor.
-
A view of the Flow track as it makes a descending turn on its way to the lower landing.
-
One of the noteworthy aspects of this project is the curve the stairlift track makes on the lower landing allowing it to stay close to the wall.

Bruno Electra-Ride III Curved Rail Lift - Wilmette
This client contacted EHLS for assistance when he could no longer climb the stairs to reach his bedroom and bathroom on the second floor of his home. The client used a walker and a cane but did not have a wheelchair. After analyzing the client's needs and the layout of his home EHLS recommended installing a Bruno Electra-Ride III (CRE-2100) curved rail stairlift.
-
This picture gives us a good view of the optional 90-degree park position we specified for the lower landing. The park position is one approach we use to minimize the distance the rail extends beyond the bottom stair onto the lower landing.
-
Here we see the rail make the first of two 90-degree turns as it winds its way up to the second floor.
-
In this photo we see the second 90-degree turn.

We've reached the top!

ThyssenKrupp Access Flow Stairlift - Chicago
This Flow curved rail lift was installed in a two-story residence in Chicago. Our client lives on the second floor, has a full-time caregiver and must use a wheelchair to get around. With assistance from her caregiver, our client transfers between her wheelchair and the stairlift.
-
This picture was taken from the second floor landing looking down at the three straight runs and two 180-degree turns the Flow rail makes between the first and second floor.
-
Another bird's eye view of the Flow track. In this picture we can see the tow lower straight sections and the first 180-degree turn. If you look closely you can just see the white and black Flow seat parked on the first floor.

Bruno Elite Straight Rail Stairlift - Skokie
In this project our client suffered from servere arthritis in both knees that made walking the basement stairs painful and difficult. EHLS recommended installing a Bruno Elite stairlift which solved the problem.
-
Installing a lift on a basement stairway can be tricky because of the doorway at the top of the stairs. In this project the EHLS installers did a good job of positioning the rail so it does not interfere with door.
-
At the bottom of this stairway we have a wedge shaped stair that presented a bit of a problem for the stairlift track. To solve this problem an EHLS carpenter rebuilt the stair so that its tread depth matched that of the other stairs.
-
The finished project with the Elite seat at the top of the stairs. The track and seat are positioned so that the basement door can still be closed.
-
Here is the Elite rail as it hugs the wall down the stairway. If you look closely you can see how the wedge shaped stair at the bottom of the stairway was modified to accommodate the rail.
-
Bruno Elite Straight Rail Stairlift - Elmhurst
In this project we installed a Bruno Elite on a basement stairway in an older home in Elmhurst. The stairway in this home just met our minimum width requirements.
-
Here we see a narrow flight of basement stairs just wide enough to accommodate a Bruno Elite. The EHLS installers did a good job of keeping the rail from interfering with the door at the top of the stairs.
-
Here we see the Elite stairlift seat at the upper landing. The seat swivels away from the stairs which gives the rider safe access when sitting down or standing up.
-
Another view of the Elite seat this time from below looking up.
