Geared Counterweight Elevator

Schematic Geared Counterweight Home ElevatorThis drive system utilizes an overhead machine drive that connects a stack of counterweights to the sling and cab assembly by way of 2 #60 roller chains. The motor will start motion going one direction and let gravity do the majority of the work from there. The efficiency of this system allows for a very small amperage draw and low maintenance costs. Its compact design allows for no machine room applications and smaller hoistway requirements than most other elevator systems.

Pros:

Smooth ride
Low operating and maintenance cost
No machine room required

Cons:

Increased overhead requirements
Noise from motor is noisier than other systems
Susceptible to power spikes

Installation Time = Number of Stops (in days)
