Any type of home modification, either large or small, starts with an idea.  Architectural drawings and blueprints provide the detail to actualize the plan and, eventually, bring it to fruition.  This highly detailed blueprint shows plans for an extensive larger scale job for the entire first floor of a home. 

This picturesque ranch style house was built from the ground up in the town of Darien and made entirely accessible from the top to the bottom.  Specialized features include a gently sloped concrete walkway to the front door for a wheelchair, a roll in shower, as well as accessible thresholds and wide doorways and spaces for ease of use

The home modification process encompasses both large and small-scale jobs, from renovating an existing property, to designing and building a fully accessible home from the ground up – and everything in between!  This home shows work in progress, with an addition to the existing house where an elevator was being installed.  Please note the grey door, which leads directly to the elevator, providing full accessibility to all levels of the home. 

EHLS provided this ranch style home in Skokie with a variety of home modifications, including a vertical platform ramp in the back of the house, this ramp in the front, a 2- stop elevator, accessible bathroom.  The next several photos shows details of this project. 

This is the basement of the home in Skokie where EHLS refinished the basement. The basement was entirely refinished with wood floors.  EHLS eliminated walls creating open spaces and created an accessible bathroom in the basement as well.  The elevator on the right allows access on both levels of the home allows all members of the family a place to congregate.  In addition, EHLS modified the front and back of the house for access.    

This modification shows the detail of the exterior of a home in Lincolnwood in which a hoistway was built on the side of the existing home to accommodate a residential 3 stop elevator to all levels of the house.  The owner of the home did not sacrifice space for the installation because an addition was constructed to house the elevator.  

This is a home in Buffalo Grove where EHLS provided multiple modifications, including a wooden ramp inside the garage and creation of a shower / full wet room and modification of the existing laundry area.  The modifications allowed the customer’s child to get in/out of the house with a tilt-in-place wheelchair and to newly created roll-in shower.

This kitchen/family room combo in a golf course subdivision in Lake Fontana, Wisconsin has a residential elevator, just to the right of the refrigerator.  Prior to the modification work by EHLS, there was a very inaccessible spiral staircase, which was removed to house this two stop elevator, enabling the occupants to continue living in their lake home.  

EHLS created a hoist-way for a new elevator in this 100+ year old historic Logan Square home.  This picture shows work in progress, highlighting the rough or studded framing of a hoistway.

This is an exterior shot of a lovely home in Winnetka that involved extensive modification work.  The three-story addition will accommodate a 4-stop home elevator as well additional room in the kitchen, an accessible bathroom and bedroom.

EHLS re-created much of this home – raising the floor in the sunken living room, creating an accessible basement with an accessible bathroom, re-building the decks on both side of the house and installing new wider front door.  Completely re-doing the  acccssible bath upstairs and finally installing this pool lift.
