Toilet Access Extended Height or ADA Toilet: An easy, attractive and very stable solution is to replace a standard toilet with a new an extended height or ADA model. Extended height toilets have a height of 16.5" to 17" or about 2" to 3" higher than standard models. Those extra inches can make a significant difference. “Toilevator”: A Toilevator is a 3” riser that is installed between the toilet and the floor. The Toilevator raises a toilet an additional 3" and is relatively easy to install. An Extended Height Toilet combined with a “Toilevator” will bring the height of the toilet to almost 20” - which will make a lateral transfer from a wheelchair much easier. Temporary Solutions: Commodes & Seat Risers are temporary solutions for raising the height of the toilet. A toilet seat riser or “Donut” attaches to an existing toilet and is a simple, inexpensive way to raise the seat a bit, but it is unstable. We prefer commodes as they offer more stability and are more convenient for other members of the family. Grab Bars: Grab bars are an important part of making a toilet accessible – providing the necessary stability for independence. Strategically placed grab bars provide the support needed to help get on/off the toilet. EHLS can help you select the right type and positions for grab bars to help with toilet access. You can learn more about grab bars in the grab bar section. Let EHLS help you make your access to the toilet easier and comfortable for you. |
