Compare Through the Floor Home Elevators - Savaria vs. Wessex
Posted on by Eric Rubel
A through the floor home elevator is exactly what it sounds like. It is a home elevator that literally travels through a floor cutout in the ceiling of the lower level and the floor of the upper level. These types of home elevator models are newer to the market when compared to hydraulic elevators and some of the other types of traditional style home elevators.
A through the floor home elevator requires less construction than a traditional home elevator, which significantly reduces the costs and also leaves home owners with more usable space. This makes it the ideal solution for those interested in adding an elevator to an existing home. However, it is important to note that a through the floor elevator is limited to two stops and cannot be installed in homes that are located in the city of Chicago.
If it is decided that a through the floor elevator is the best and safest solution to provide access to the upper level of a home or a basement, there are two models to choose from; the Savaria Telecab and the Wessex VE 38. Both are high-quality elevators, but depending on the needs of the person using it, there may be one recommended over the other and vice versa.

EHLS has installed both types of through the floor elevators in the Chicagoland area. However, we will recommend one rather than the other after doing a home assessment and learning more about the person who will be using the elevator.
